RIM BlackBerry Curve 8520 is the cheapest QWERTY device in the range of the company, with a price £ 199 with Orange pay-and-go SIM card and is ideal for business users with limited budgets.
It is similar to other BlackBerry models – including the BlackBerry Curve 8900 – but unlike most of his brothers and sisters, this is not a function of roller navigation. You will find a small optical pad instead of below the screen.
It works like a mini-touchpad, and is simple to operate and accurate. As there are no moving parts, it is also likely to prove more robust long-term use. Unfortunately, the build quality on the rest of the device leaves much to be desired – the main difference with the more expensive models in the absence of a metal plate.
In its place is a shiny plastic cover to find the thin and feels very cheap. On the positive side, the compact form factor, this phone fits easily into any pocket. Matt, the soft-touch plastic on the side are also pleased – and the media buttons on the top of the device.
A number of unmarked buttons provide volume controls and camera, with a button to activate voice control. They are integrated into the side of the device and the same material that is a wise choice, because there is no chance, no dust under the keys leaves.
The main menu, call and end keys are flush with the screen with a glossy surface, which is a magnet for fingerprints and scratches. The QWERTY keyboard located below offers exceptional ease of use. This is not the biggest keyboard we’ve seen, but it is easy to adapt and respond to key and securely attached.
The 2.6 inch screen is as good as most other BlackBerry devices, with bright colors. The 320 x 240 pixel resolution is not the sharpest images, but they remain crisp and easy on the eye. The BlackBerry OS is just as intuitive as ever, with large icons clearly identified on the menu.
A series of shortcut icons sit on the home screen, pad provided with full access to other functions by pressing the button on the left side of optics. With push email support delivering your mail instantly. Setting up your account is simply a matter of entering your email address and password.
